How are rodeo animals treated?
Animals are inspected prior to their participation. If an animal is ill, lame, sore, or injured, it will not be allowed to participate. No excessive roughness or abuse of an animal is tolerated on the grounds. Animals can never be given any type of stimulant or hypnotic.
Bucking Horse
The horses only work 8 to 10 sconds at a time maybe 10 times a year, “That’s under two minutes of work per year.
Purpose-Bred Buckers
Some contractors have up to 50 breeding mares. Crown 7 Ranch has approximately 500 horses pastured on their 200-acre ranch near Magic Mountain

Bucking bulls are viewed as athletes. reaching their athletic prime at age five or six

Livestock Welfare Rules
All animals are inspected and evaluated for illness, weight, eyesight and injury prior to the rodeo, and no animals that are sore, lame, sick or injured are allowed to participate in the event.
- Acceptable spurs must be dull
- Stimulants may not be given to any animal to improve performance
- A veterinarian must be on-site at all PRCA-sanctioned rodeos.
- The flank straps for horses are fleece- or neoprene-lined and those for bulls are made of soft cotton

electric prods may be used only when necessary and may only touch the animal on the hip or shoulder area. Oversight of it all a group of Judges watching every step of the way analyzing every step and precaution. Some judges are international, who come from other countries to ensure its validity and success.
